Fresh off the nuptials of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, we in wedding world are expecting to see a big trend in black and white soirees. White and black are the ultimate in high glamour, and Ms. Kardashian never fails to impress us with all those sparkles.
The reality star we can’t seem to get enough of didn’t settle for only one, but THREE Couture Vera Wang wedding gowns! From a princess-style ball gown to a more fitted 50’s inspired evening gown, fashion played a big role when it came to Kim’s big day.
The contrast between black and white adds a drama that doesn’t disappoint. The 6 foot tall cake from ‘Hansen’s Cakes’ was a focal point at the entrance of the reception. The black and white theme was carried through every detail of the day – including the bridal party’s attire. Not only were guests encouraged to wear either black or white, but the bridesmaids were also glowing in ivory silk organza gowns by none other than Vera Wang.
For the last few years, we’ve spotted numerous bridesmaid dresses trending towards darker hues – black and grey being amongst the favorites. But, with Pippa turning heads at the Royal Wedding and now Kim’s sisters making statements in ivory, we are sure the trend will begin moving in the opposite direction.

There is never a better reason to gather the girls then for a fun and fabulous (cute-as-can-be) high tea ! Whether we have become inspired by the recent royal nuptials (or maybe we’re simply regressing back to our girlhood days) we are loving the idea of tea party themed soirees for everything from bridal showers, birthday parties, or simple Sunday afternoons.
When our oh-so-sweet client Alana approached us about planning something extra special for her Mother on Mother’s Day, we were delighted to execute an adorable 12-person high tea fete ! We decked their home with oversized balloons, gingham napkins and lovely white lounge furniture. Mother and daughter duos spent the afternoon sipping aromatic loose leaf teas and munching mini sandwiches (from Loic Gourmet), pastel coloured French macaroons, fresh baked cupcakes, and scrumptious bite sized meringues (all from Bobbette and Belle).
Tea parties have a way of transforming even the most typical afternoon into an elegant affair. Hopefully we have inspired you to gather your ladies and host your very own !

Decor that doubles as dessert ? Yes please ! We at Melissa Andre Events are currently coveting the idea of edible centrepieces ! Centrepiece ideas that look good enough to eat, literally ! We recently stumbled across some scrumptious cupcake bouquets (decadent cupcakes masked as stunning floral arrangements) courtesy of the gals at Designer Delights. We love the idea of guests (not to mention a bride and groom) plucking sweet-treats from the centre of their tables. Be sure to interject some of your own quirky personality into this design idea – have cupcakes frosted to match your bridal bouquet, OR use favourite cake flavours (red velvet ? carrot ? chocolate banana ? YUM).
One of our past couples, Jordana and Dave, opted to present each of their guests with a personal 2-tiered miniature wedding cake. Miniature wedding cakes (while similar to their cupcake cousins) are an adorable centrepiece alternative.

When I first met Natasha and Jesse (and Natasha’s absolutely adorable mum, Carol) I though these 2 are a real-life brunette Cinderella + Prince Charming. While Natasha and Jesse planned from afar (they were living in Africa), Carol and I had a lovely long distance time sending samples, taking photos and skype-ing our way to a perfectly planned New Years Eve Fete. For starters, how gorgeous are these two? Secondly, their engagement story is one i tell every time someone asks me: “What’s the best engagement story you’ve ever heard”. And third, I couldn’t help but visit them the morning after the wedding on January 1st for a lovely new Years Day brunch – they really were that lovely. As well as planning, I was lucky enough to beautify Natasha on her big day with a gorgeous loose but formal updo and elegant + timeless makeup. Hi everyone,
This has to be one of my favourite brides of all time. We met months before her wedding and instantly decided we should decorate one another’s condos and be really good friends.
She was so gorgeous everytime we met, but of course she looked the most beautiful she’s ever looked on her wedding day (with a little tiny bit of help from yours truly) This gorgeous garden soiree was so detailed, clean, crisp and gorgeous. It was my absolute pleasure helping Kim + Shawn plan their big day.
I always brag about having the best brides ever – I really do though! Kim + Shawn are oh so in love and were an absolute dream to work with.

This adorable little Sunday wedding was one of my favorites this year! Tracy and Matt are truly one of the sweetest couples I have ever met and I had such an amazing team! Complete with traditional Persian ceremony and knife dance, this wedding was not only gorgeous, but fun! If I had to hand out an award for my most stylish bride of 2010 – it would be to Ms. Jordana…. Make that MRS. Jordana. Her wedding to the ever-so-sweet Dave took place at the Royal Conservatory of Music on Bloor street this August 2010 and needless to say – it was nothing but stunning. (RCM is actually one of my favourite venues in the city for a wedding at the moment. it is really stunning)
The first time I met Jordana at the giant Chapters on John + Richmond, I instantly knew we would get along famously. After speaking with her for about 2 minutes I knew she’d make it to my list of favourite brides of all time. And by the time our meeting was over, I was wondering if it would be a little forward of me to invite her to dinner that night at Blowfish with a few of my girlfriends. Any bride stylish enough to opt out of a traditional wedding gown for a black, yellow and white Gucci dress would of course know how important wedding details are and I am certain that guests left the wedding with the fondest memories of the day. The dress set the colour scheme for the rest of the entire wedding – Crisp White with shades of lemonade yellow.

(www.melissaandre.com) I had the most wonderful time with this amazing group of girls and guy pre-wedding listening to stories about beautiful baby Scarlett, shopping for the perfect wedding shoe, and the insane search all over the world for Jordana’s nearly IMPOSSIBLE-to-find wedding gown.
Bridesmaids: Nicole, Lauren, and Sarah + one of Jordana’s best friends Jason spent the morning eating the most delicious mini sandwiches and fresh fruit prepared by Couture Cuisine and relaxing before their photo shoot. Couture Cuisine actually catered the entire wedding (http://www.couture-cuisine.com/). They really are, in my opinion, the best caterers in Toronto. 360 Multimedia captured the day with their lovely photography. Each guest was served their own gorgeous 2-tiered mini wedding cake for dessert – made by the talented Bakerbots (http://www.bakerbotsbaking.com/) Flowers were designed by the experts at Stemz (http://stemz.ca/) And Guests continued to be spoiled as the night went on by a Milk and Cookie Buffet -expertly coordinated in shades of white and yellow!!
I am very much looking forward to working on Jordana’s sister’s wedding this coming July 2011 at the Hyatt and seeing them all really really soon!

When I first met Kathy about wedding planning, I immediately thought she was the most adorably excited bride-to be. Then I met her fiance, Abdul, and was of course equally impressed by how kind and sweet and considerate he was. Their wedding was nothing short of ENTERTAINING! From the very beginning, they had a focus on giving their guests a memorable and FUN experience, and I think we really accomplished that at their wedding reception. I feel so lucky to have worked with them on such a fabulous day!
The night started off with a video message from both the bride and groom to their guests recounting their engagement story, how they fell in love, and other funny anecdotes about one another. The reception continued with lots of music – both from the Afghan culture and from the Thai-Laos culture. Both cultures were also represented in the dinner menu, dessert, and of course – the entertainment!! The night was sprinkled with performances from Brazilian dancers AND the super entertaining SGPD – Check out this video of them dancing on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRw6IN4LLPk ! When I first met Farah & Phillip I KNEW their wedding would be a FUN one! They met while working on a cruise ship and one might even say– It was Love at First Sight! Farah is an outstanding singer and dancer. It is no wonder she was practically irresistible to him. Phillip is a phenomenal cook and an absolute charmer. They are literally made for one another. They bonded over their love of wine, travel, food, and music and celebrated their wedding on May 30th 2010 at the always beautiful Graydon Hall Manor in Toronto.
Right at the start of our most busy wedding planning season to date – these two brought a constant wave of energy that was refreshing and so memorable….. and that doesn’t include their beautiful BRIDAL PARTY! Their crew of professional singers, dancers, poets, and actresses were the absolute life of the party. I don’t think I saw them sit down for even one song. Melissa Andre – Celebrate.Beauty. also brought our hair and makeup team along for the energetic ride and I think they all look stunning!

This summer, I had the PLEASURE of spending a gorgeous wedding day working with some of the sweetest photographers in Toronto – Geminie Photography! The wedding took place at the beautiful Thompson Landry Gallery in the Historical Distillery District. The most unique thing about this venue is that it’s an art gallery and all of the art must stay in the space during the wedding. On June 6th of this year I had the pleasure of working with the most sweet, thoughtful, and funny couple on their perfect wedding – Naomi & Simon. When I met their complete bridal party at the Rehearsal, I instantly knew it was going to be a memorable day! Naomi wore a gorgeous dress with raspberry coloured details and we celebrated their union at the always beautiful Graydon Hall (www.graydonhall.com) A big THANK YOU to Bryn for being so fabulous to work with! The bride & groom had breakfast and got ready for the ceremony in separate rooms of the manor but at about 9:30 AM, after I had finished Naomi’s timeless hair and makeup look, her dress was completely laced in the back, and all the finishing touches were in place, they saw one another for the first time that day and it was perfect. They were the perfect combination of excited yet calm. It was a beautiful unveiling.
Firefly Studios did a wonderful jobs on the images (www.fireflyphotostudios.ca), Life Is Sweet made the most amazing and delicious mini cupcakes (www.lifeissweet.ca), The amazing florals – Red Peonies, Orange Orchids, and more – were by Wild Thyme (www.wildthyme.ca). Couture Cuisine (www.couture-cuisine.com) prepared breakfast for the bridal party, and an amazing brunch for the guests complete with an espresso bar and the most delicious Belgian Waffles anyone has ever tasted!

I first met Carly at her King west town home and we quickly bonded over Michael Jackson videos and the idea of the birdcage veil. we looked through photos of her sister Cam’s beach wedding and talked through the details of hers!
Spending the day in Muskoka with this colourful and beautiful bridal party was the perfect way to spend a Saturday in August and this is definitely a bride I love to keep in touch with! Of course we had to create a hair and makeup look as gorgeous as the dress Carly chose to compliment the venue! I created a hair and makeup look that did the same!

Working with Leanne on her wedding day was an absolute dream. Our first meeting at her apartment in the beaches went on for hours as we bonded over Disney princess hair, our favourite shampoo, allergic reactions, the colour blue, and naturally, her wedding! Every single detail of this wedding was handled to perfection, including the wedding day hair and makeup!
